STOCKHOLM, Sept. 21(Greenpost)–The 28th Stockholm Film Festival will be dedicated to Michael Nyqvist – one of Sweden’s greatest and most beloved actors, according to a press release from the festival press on Friday.
During the Stockholm International Film Festival, Nyqvist’s artistic legacy will be acknowledged with minute of silence as well as a show reel with highlights from his career together with members of Michael Nyqvist’s foundation that was started shortly after his passing. As a part of the dedication, Denmark’s Oscar entry You Disappear by Peter Schønau Fog will have its Swedish premiere. The short film Vi by artist Ulf Rollof will be also be screened, both in which Michael Nyqvist act.
“Michael Nyqvist broke through in the early 2000’s with movies such as The Guy in the Grave Next Door, Together, The Millennium trilogy and We Can Be Heroes, which the Stockholm Film Festival screened in 2002″, according to the press release.
His career continued in Hollywood where he worked with prominent directors such as Brad Bird and Terrence Malick. Nyqvist was also an author and acted on stage.
” It’s just heartbreaking when an actor like Michael Nyqvist is no longer with us. We are eternally grateful for the film legacy he leaves ut with, that’s why we are dedicating this year’s festival to him,” said festival director Git Scheynius.
“Michael was a warm and curious person with an unshakable faith in the human spirit and the power of acting, we are incredibly thankful that The Stockholm Film Festival chooses to acknowledge Michael’s career by dedicating this year’s festival to him, ” said Thomas Perlmann who is the spokesperson for Michael Nyqvist’s Foundation.
The dedication will take place at Cinema Saga, Screen 1 on November 12th, 15:00, and is open to the festival’s audience.
The Stockholm International Film Festival takes place 8-19 November.
