STOCKHOLM, Jan 21(SCBR)–Kunming Rail delegation led by Tao Min,
Vice General Manager of Kunming Rail Transit Group co.Ltd visited
Swedish Railway Administration on Jan. 17.
Sandra Sigebrant, Communication Officer of Trafikverket,
received the delegation and gave a presentation about their current
work in Stockholm.
Sigebrant said that a huge project of underground subways is
underway in Stockholm.
A six kilometer long subway tunnel even with part of it underwater
in Gamla Stan will be completed by 2017. The project was
approved in 2006 and got the budget in 2007. By 2009,
construction had begun. By now all the rocks have been blasted
and the project will be completed by 2017.
By then, the underwater tunnel will be used as subway and
commuter train while the train on the ground will be used only
for long distance passenger and cargo trains.
Thus the transportation capacity will be doubled for both.
Sweden began to build the railway track in 1871 in Gamla
Stan to connect the two sides of the city.
