Utländska journalister besöker Xinjiang-serien (1) -Kina-Europe Express Länkar Dig och Mig

Av Xuefei Chen Axelsson

STOCKHOLM, 19.

Foreign journalists visit Xinjiang series(1)-China Europe Express Links You and Me

By Xuefei Chen Axelsson

Urumqi, Aug.25(Greenpost)—Believe it or not, it is very likely that a bottle of tomato ketchep on the table of a Naples family is transported by China Europe Express via Urumqi  realignment center, capital of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

As a journalist from Greenpost, together with 14 journalists from 14 countries in Asia and Europe, I have been to Urumqi  realignment center and witnessed the Harmony Freight Train set off from here to Horgos Port and go on to Europe with a full load of cargo in 41 European standard cabins.

Nan Jun, Vice General Manager of Xinjiang Railway’s international transportation Co. Ltd. said that “the train that will start now is the 1486th train since May 26, 2016 and the 654th since January 1, 2018″.

“Since the start of China Railway Express, we have been welcomed by our customers because we have increased our transportation capacity substantially from once a week to once a day and now three times a day. So our railway lines are also increasing from 4 lines to 19 lines covering 23 places. The speed is increasing further by optimising the domestic transportation time and through active cooperation with our partners abroad. We have shortened the time from 66 hours to 44 hours and now it takes only 40 hours to arrive in Almaty. The time to Germany has also been shortened from 16 days to 13.5 days. The cost is also decreasing. ” said Nan.

Nan Jun said that the train can reach as far as Naples in Italy via Russia, Belorus, Poland, Germany and Italy. When the train came back, it came with pulp from Finland and transported to Korla in Xinjiang to produce green products. Meanwhile, other European products were also transported back.

He said this year’s goal is to reach 1400 times and there will be 80 percent of them to be from point to point. The products they sent out is not only to be Xinjiang Products, but also containers from Yiwu, east China’s Zhejiang province. It only takes one day to arrive here. And then it will be sent to London. The train is in international standard because the train that goes to Britain, will change the track since it is using different track. Urumqi cargo realignment center makes the urgent products go first and other products go after. It is here that they will change the track and change the cars. The cost decreased and the efficiency increased.

China Railway Express in Urumqi makes Xinjiang  a communication hub for Belt and Road Initiative linking China and central Asia and Europe  and become the core zone in promoting the economic and trade with relevant countries. This has been the contribution made by Xinjiang which even substantially contributes to the world trade.

So far, there has been 19 railway lines linking China and outside world and about half of them via Xinjiang Uygor Autonomous Region  northwest China and half of them via Heilongjiang province, northeast China.

Many people in the western world doubts about China’s purpose of Belt and Road Initiative, but to make cargo transportation easier, make world business easier to be done  and benefit all involved, more importantly to provide good goods to all the customers is the real purpose and this is just a good example of Belt and Road Initiative.

This was the first stop Chinese and foreign journalists have stoped. Its second stop will be Xinjiang Software park. Please stay tuned.

Nordhaus and Romer share 2018 Economic Prize in Memory of Alfred Nobel

By Xuefei Chen Axelsson

STOCKHOLM, Oct. 8,(Greenpost)– Goran Hansson has announced that The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2018 was divided equally between William D. Nordhaus “for integrating climate change into long-run macroeconomic analysis” and Paul M. Romer “for integrating technological innovations into long-run macroeconomic analysis.”

At its heart, economics deals with the management of scarce resources. Nature dictates the main constraints on economic growth and our knowledge determines how well we deal with these constraints. This year’s Laureates William Nordhaus and Paul Romer have significantly broadened the scope of economic analysis by constructing models that explain how the market economy interacts with nature and knowledge.

Technological change – Romer demonstrates how knowledge can function as a driver of long-term economic growth. When annual economic growth of a few per cent accumulates over decades, it transforms people’s lives. Previous macroeconomic research had emphasised technological innovation as the primary driver of economic growth, but had not modelled how economic decisions and market conditions determine the creation of new technologies. Paul Romer solved this problem by demonstrating how economic forces govern the willingness of firms to produce new ideas and innovations.

Romer’s solution, which was published in 1990, laid the foundation of what is now called endogenous growth theory. The theory is both conceptual and practical, as it explains how ideas are different to other goods and require specific conditions to thrive in a market. Romer’s theory has generated vast amounts of new research into the regulations and policies that encourage new ideas and long-term prosperity.

Climate change – Nordhaus’ findings deal with interactions between society and nature. Nordhaus decided to work on this topic in the 1970s, as scientists had become increasingly worried about the combustion of fossil fuel resulting in a warmer climate. In the mid-1990s, he became the first person to create an integrated assessment model, i.e. a quantitative model that describes the global interplay between the economy and the climate. His model integrates theories and empirical results from physics, chemistry and economics. Nordhaus’ model is now widely spread and is used to simulate how the economy and the climate co-evolve. It is used to examine the consequences of climate policy interventions, for example carbon taxes.

The contributions of Paul Romer and William Nordhaus are methodological, providing us with fundamental insights into the causes and consequences of technological innovation and climate change. This year’s Laureates do not deliver conclusive answers, but their findings have brought us considerably closer to answering the question of how we can achieve sustained and sustainable global economic growth.

The Laureates

William D. Nordhaus, born 1941 in Albuquerque, USA. Ph.D. in 1967 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA. Sterling Professor of Economics, Yale University, New Haven, USA.

Paul M. Romer, born 1955 in Denver, USA. Ph.D. in 1983 from University of Chicago, USA. Professor at NYU Stern School of Business, New York, USA.

Ambassador Gui Congyou attended the BRI summit and BRIX establishment ceremony in Stockholm

By Xuefei Chen Axelsson

STOCKHOLM, Oct. 5(Greenpost)– Chinese Ambassador Gui Congyou has said that the establishment of the Belt and Road Execultive Group has great significance.

He made the remark at the second Belt and Road Summit Forum in Stockholm on Sept. 28 when the Belt and Road Executive Group was announced to establish.

Ambassador Gui said the Swedish Boat Gothenburg opened a maritime silk road 260 years ago between China’s Guangzhou and Gothenburg in Sweden.  In 2007, a replica of the Gothenburg boat sailed to China again and Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf also visited China then, beginning new cooperation between China and Sweden and calling for further sailing and cooperation along the belt and road route.

A week ago, belt and road initiative between Sweden and China made a milestone progress. That was the first China-Europe Freight Train started from Dalana in Sweden with full load of Swedish best timber to leave for East China’s Ganzhou city, Jiangxi province via Gothenburg and Hanberg Germany.  Sweden exported timber to China and when the train comes back, it can load Chinese agricultural products to Europe and Sweden.

Gui said President Xi Jinping put up forward the belt and road initiative, with the purpose to expand the further cooperation along the silk road countries on the current basis of infrastructure, finance and cultural fields.  For example, the cooperation between China and Khazakstan have set a good example for other countries.

He congratulate the establishment of belt and road Executive Group or BRIX and welcome others to participate in the initiative actively.

BRIX Chairman Ulf Sandmark explained the belt and road initiative and its significance in the world.  He held that BRI is not only good for developing countries to cooperate with China but also for developed countries to cooperate with China and with each other under the framework of BRI.

Stephen Brawer, vice Chairman of the Belt and Road Executive Group in Sweden, also pointed out the strategy of the BRI. He also reviewed the Forum on China-Africa cooperation FOCAC,which was held in Beijing in early September. During the summit, 53 African nations linked up with the BRI to fulfill the African Union’s Agenda 2063 for continent-wide modern infrastructure interconnectivity between all the capital African cities and the elimination of poverty.

Kitty Smyth, a UK strategy and PR senior adviser for Sino-European Public relations, said  the BRI, launched by President Xi Jinping in 2013, has a philosophical dimension of creating harmony. She then spoke about how it could foster a new type of international relations and forge partnerships of dialogue with no confrontation and of friendship rather than alliance.  Smyth advised Sweden to establish institutions capable of developing long term BRI cooperation with China.

Chairman of the CSBC   Ali Farmandeh said there is great potential for business partners in belt and road initiative.  He stressed that the BRI is much more than Chinese production of Swedish goods.  The New Silk Road is not something far away, as many in the northern corner of Europe think. Among the 70 nations that have joined the BRI, there are also neighbors in Europe, who are already building their parts of the world connectivity network, projects where Swedish buisinesses can take part immediately.

SinceusCEO Wu Ying shared her experience of helping Swedish startups successfully doing business in China.

Panalist of BRIX and Belt and Road summit forum spoke at the forum.

Lydia Liu, one of the Executive Group members who is also a Swedish Chinese said BRIX establishment will push forward Sweden to join the Belt and Road Initiative as soon as possible. China has welcomed Sweden many times to participate in belt and road framework and like to share its development opportunities especially Swedish small and medium sized enterprises to have a win  win cooperation with China.

Hussein Askary who has translated a book about BRI into Arabic language was the host of the forum.

China-Europe Freight Train links Sweden — a good model of BRI

By Xuefei Chen Axelsson
STOCKHOLM, Sept. 21(Greenpost)– On Sept. 17,  a China-Europe Freight Train went from Bergkvist-Insjön Station in Dalana, Sweden  to Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province East China with a total of 900 tons of  timber.
The total travelling distance reaches 14 thousand kilometers and it will take 19 days to arrive in Ganzhou Port.

Li Bingjun, Vice governor of Jiangxi Province and Mayor of Ganzhou City, Ingvar Törn, governor of Dalana Province in Sweden and Han Xiaodong, Counselor of Commerce at the Chinese Embassy attended the starting ceremony.

Li Bingjun said China-Europe Freight Train is the typical result of the world’s response to Belt and Road Initiative put up forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping, it has been dubbed as the Iron and Steel Caravan.  Ganzhou Port is the 8th of its kind opening to the outside world and the first experimental zone of Quarantine supervision. It has become an important destination of transportation of Belt and Road Initiative.  China has opened 18 railway lines and reached five central Asian countries and European economic zones. He hopes that the operation of the train symbolizes the opening of a new chapter in Sino-Swedish and Ganzhou and Sweden friendly cooperation.

Governor Törn said Sweden enjoys 73 percent of the forest coverage rate with forests industry export accounting for 11 percenet of the total export volume. The annual export turnover reaches 12.7 billion Euro. The export to Asia increased rapidly in recent years. He hopes the operation of the train can lead to further increase of Dalana’s export to China.

Counselor Han Xiaodong said Sino-Swedish economic and trade cooperation has a long history. Sweden, as the head of the European wood industry is the third largest wood export country in the world. Its annual export volume of wood can reach 13 million cubic meters.

Ganzhou is the largest wood furniture manufacturing base with an annual consumption of 15 million cubic meters of wood. There is great prospect for bilateral cooperation. He hopes the train will go to China regularly in order to push bilateral economic and trade cooperation into a new era and achieve new achievements.

The opening of the Sweden-China first freight train has broken the traditional railway to marine transportation model and successfully opened a new passage, substantially increased the transportation efficiency and shorten the transportation time.  This marks another important result in Sino-Swedish economic and trade cooperation and opened a new chapter in cooperation between  Ganzhou and Sweden.

China and Finland Promote Cultural and Tourism to Improve Trade and Tourism Industry

 By Xuefei Chen Axelsson

Zhai Yuhu, Vice Director of Hebei Tourism Development Commission said Hebei province has great advantages and rich cultural and tourism resources. The Great Wall is in Hebei  which embraces both the beach and the mountains as well as skiing site in Zhangjiakou where the 2022 Winter Olympics will be held.
He said the purpose of this visit was to implement the strategic decision between the two countries’ governments.
“In 2017, the governments of Finland and China made the decision to promote cultural exchange with an emphasis on Winter Olympic, energy and tourism,” said Hebei Tourism Development Committee representative Zhai Yu Hu.

The Tourism Development Committee of Hebei Province in association with the Chinese embassy in Helsinki and Visit Finland organised the tourism promotion conference.

The conference was held marking the year 2018 as the EU-China tourism year aimed at promoting the less-known tourist destinations in a proactive way.

Similar to  Finland, Hebei Province also enjoys great sightseeing and snow sport activities in winter. The province is an internationally renowned ice and snow sports and tourism resort in China. It has more than 80 skiing resorts, of which the largest one covers about 156 kilometres. In the 2017-2018 snow season the area received as many as 2.741 million visitors.

In an interview with Greenpost, Zhai Yuhu said that Finland has  long been known as an experienced country in ice and snow activities and sports, Hebei Tourism Development Committee likes to learn from Finland. Besides, the province also aims at knowing more about winter sports equipment from Finnish companies to elevate itself to the international level in terms of manufacturing them.

Zhai Yu Hu said that Hebei  has similar geographical features as Finland, having great forests and a large number of lakes. Embracing the capital city of Beijing and other neighbouring municipalities and facing the Bohai Sea with a 487km coastal line, Hebei Province enjoys great advantages in attracting tourists.

The province  has a variety of top tourism attractions, from the famous Great Wall, world-recognised geological parks and national reserves to the thousand-year historical complex of imperial gardens, ancient palaces and graveyards and temples, it is really worthwhile to visit,  said Zhai Yu Hu.

Apart from a tourism promotion framework, Hebei also has a trade facilitation policy that allows 144-hour visa-free transit for visitors from 53 countries and tax rebate on shopping departures for overseas tourists. A new international airport near Hebei province will open to operation next year to facilitate travel.

Guo Xiaoguang, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Helsinki also spoke at the conference. He said China and Finland are really not far away from each other because there is only one country between the two countries, that is Russia.

Guo said that tourism is the best means to increase mutual understanding between the two countries. Therefore, the Chinese embassy to Finland also acts as a bridge between the agencies and companies of Finland and China in accelerating tourism cooperation.

To date, the Finnish national flag carrier Finnair has launched five direct flights from Helsinki to five different cities in China, thereby considerably increasing the number of Finnish tourists to China in recent years, while also adding a large number of Chinese visitors to Finland. Guo again and again introduced Hebei’s famous tourist destinations and warmly welcome Finnish tourists to visit Hebei.

The official tourism promotion board, Visit Finland representative Teemu Ahola, said currently Finnish officials are in China discussing further cooperation between China and Finland in snow sports in 2019 based on Xi jinping’s last year’s visit result.  In December this year,   Finland will go to Zhangjiakou to organise an opening event of the Winter Olympics 2022, which might become a good opportunity for promoting cooperation in sports and tourism between the two countries.

In an interview with Greenpost, Teemu Ahola said China is the fifth largest tourism market for Finnish tourism industry. They really like to tap the great potential of it and will organize promotion activities in China too.

During the promotion conference, the two sides also signed further agreements in deeper cooperation in the future.

About 100 people attended the event.

Minister Antti Häkkänen: International community must work harder to stop financial flows to terrorism

By Xuefei Chen Axelsson
Stockholm, April 27(Greenpost)–In order to fight terrorism we need to intervene in its financing, and international cooperation is required to achieve this, Minister of Justice Antti Häkkänen said when speaking at a high-level conference in Paris today.
The conference dealt with measures to be taken by the international community to combat the financing of terrorism.

Around 80 states from all over the world and several international organisations attended the conference, which was convened by French President Emmanuel Macron.

“Criminalisation of financing of terrorism, firmly anchored in human rights, is an important and necessary means to prevent terrorist offences. However, this alone is not enough. The 80 countries from all over the world and the international organisations represented in this conference can together change the world by blocking the flow of money to terrorism. One of the most important ways to fight terrorism is to find the sources and channels of funding and then close them down as effectively as possible,” Häkkänen said.

Terrorism cannot be stopped without intensifying the international cooperation. According to Häkkänen, more effective international exchange of information is required to be able to trace financial flows all the way to their final destination.

“For instance, information requests on suspected terrorist financing should be processed by all states much faster than at the moment. In addition, we need to keep up with the constantly changing operating environment. Various unofficial, often anonymous and digital money transfer services make detecting and preventing terrorist financing very challenging,” Häkkänen said.

“Furthermore, we need more efficient and more extensive legal cooperation in criminal matters. Competent authorities in all states should respond to international requests for legal assistance without delay and cooperate as widely as possible. It is crucial that all countries present here today are committed to stepping up our collective efforts to fight the financing of terrorism.”

“An enormous amount of work is being carried out within the European Union to create a safe living environment for ordinary citizens. I also consider it important that the EU continues to be an active global actor that strives to deepen the international cooperation to fight terrorism,” Häkkänen said.
