SCEA and China-Sweden Startup Forum encourage young entrepreneurs to come to China

By Xuefei Chen Axelsson

STOCKHOLM, May 29 (Greenpost) – Sweden-China Entrepreneur Association sponsored China-Sweden Startup Forum has encouraged Swedish young people to come to China to establish their businesses.

Being held in Stockholm’s KTH on May 25, over a hundred Swedish students and overseas Chinese students attended a forum titled Dragon Slide meaning that people are afraid of going to Chinese market, but the Chinese Dragon will actually bring a lot of opportunities for entrepreneurs.

Zhang Qiaozhen, President of Sweden-China Entrepreneur Association opened the forum and explained the mission of her association.

Zhang Qiaozhen said her association has held various summit between China and Sweden. For example, they held Nordic exhibition gallery during China International Cultural Fairs in Shenzhen in early May. In November they will participate in the China International Technology Achievement Fair (High-tech Fair) and host Nordic exhibition gallery to build up bridges in science and culture between Nordic countries and China. She called on young entrepreneurs to participate in her Nordic exhibition gallery in November this year.

She said under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China has lowered its development speed and sought for high quality and efficiency. China is stepping on the green and low carbon and sustainable development road. This will not only be conducive to Chinese people but also contribute to the global development. Sweden has a lot of good experience worthwhile for China to learn.

Zhang Qiaozhen’s speech won a lot of response from the young entrepreneurs.

Juan Mauritz, founder of Swedish Startup Forum and SISP Chinese regional director Ulf Borbos also introduced their responsibilities at the opening of the forum.

Daigang, Counselor of Science and Technology of the Chinese Embassy in Sweden also attended the forum. He discussed the startups with Zhang Qiaozhen during the forum.

During the forum, Swedish entrepreneurs and professionals explained why people should go to China to develop with their own experiences and the difficulties and lessons.

The forum also arranged a program called Explore China meaning that they will arrange students to visit China and 777 students registered. Finally 16 were selected to have the chance to go to China to visit enterprises.

Many people are interested in exploring China, but they have language and cultural difficulties and that is what Sweden-China Entrepreneur Association likes to serve for them.

The forum attracted one than a hundred students and young entrepreneurs and they also commended the forum is very interesting and informative.

ABBA THE MUSEUM OPENS A NEW PERMANENT EXHIBITION

STOCKHOLM, May 9 (Greenpost)– FOLLOW THE STORY OF THE MEMBERS FROM 1982 UNTIL THE PRESENT DAY – THE NEW EXHIBITION OPENS TO THE PUBLIC ON MAY 8th 2018!

See, whether it is purposely or not, it is true that the promotion was decided to be on May 8th, 2018! 8 matters not only in China, but also in Sweden, because it sounds good luck and wealth in Chinese.

36 years have passed since Sweden’s most successful music export stopped playing together, but these days their songs are listened to more than ever before. ABBA The Museum celebrates its 5th anniversary in 2018 and is marking the occasion by opening a new interactive exhibition with 15 new attractions.

Five years ago ABBA museum opened and the news spreaded to all over the world due to the international correspondent, maybe, at least a young friend coming from Paris told me that she just liked to have a visit to ABBA when she came to visit Stockholm late last year.

The new exhibition at ABBA The Museum begins with a film produced by Jonas Åkerlund, with material from all four members’ own projects from 1982 until the present day. The various attractions include the Chess display (where visitors can try their hand at conducting the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in an interactive experience to the score of Chess or One Night In Bangkok), the Mamma Mia! display (where visitors can virtually help Donna paint a door and window shutters), and the BAO display (where visitors can dance to the Benny Anderssons Orkester as it is projected on the wall). The exhibition also features special displays dedicated to the careers and solo projects of the four members after 1982, with video clips, live performances and newly recorded interviews.

– We depict the musicals, solo albums and films through the use of both digital and analogue techniques. In true ABBA The Museum style we create imaginative settings and tell the story with exciting interactivity, says Ingmarie Halling, Creative Director/Curator, ABBA The Museum.

– Some music never dies – it multiplies, is the best way to sum up the new interactive exhibition, which will be an important complement to the existing attractions at ABBA The Museum. The pop sensation that was ABBA remains a never-ending source of musical inspiration, and it is only right that we have a permanent exhibition dedicated to the worldwide achievements of the band’s members. This exhibition will provide a huge boost, not only for the museum itself, but for the whole of Djurgården as a tourist attraction in Stockholm. I heartily welcome visitors from all corners of the globe to ABBA The Museum on May 8th 2018, says Mattias Tengblad, Managing Director and Group CEO, ABBA The Museum at POP House Stockholm.

INTRO FILM – Jonas Åkerlund has produced a new film! It signals the start of the new exhibition. Visitors get to enjoy a 4-minute-long film with material from all four members’ own projects from 1982 until the present day.

THE AIRPORT – Visitors get to go through a gate at Stockholm-Arlanda airport that symbolises when the four band members flew to London for a record release that would turn out to be their last such release together as ABBA.

CHESS – The Conductor, an interactive experience. A chance to try one’s hand as a conductor to the score of the musical pieces Chess and One Night In Bangkok. The points are saved on the ticket.

LYRICS – On two walls in the exhibition we focus on lyric writing in general and Björn Ulvaeus in particular. This attraction includes interviews with Kristina Lugn and Marie Nilsson from Ainbusk Singers, who discuss their views on writing lyrics.

BAO – A dance floor where visitors can experience, and dance to, the Benny Anderssons Orkester as it is projected on one of the walls.

FRIDA AND AGNETHA – Two ”houses” dedicated to Frida and Agnetha and their solo projects and careers after 1982. This attraction includes clips from music videos, live performances and interviews as well as original clothes etc.

KRISTINA FRÅN DUVEMÅLA – Original objects from the 1995 production of Kristina Från Duvemåla, including the stove that is the centrepiece of the room. This attraction also allows visitors to see and listen to songs from the musical.

QUIZ – A chance for visitors to test their knowledge about the four members and their respective projects after 1982.

BJÖRN AND BENNY – An attraction dedicated to Björn and Benny’s own projects, including newly recorded interviews and press clips from their various adventures.

MAMMA MIA! – An attraction that provides visitors with the experience of virtually painting a door and window shutters on Donna’s house – Help Donna fix the house. Other features include video clips from both Mamma Mia! films, behind-the-scenes material and original clothes. Adjacent to this attraction there is also a display of the original model for Mamma Mia! The Party that was made by Bengt Fröderberg and Anna Söderberg.

MIXBOX – A chance for visitors to mix music by using various pre-recorded soundtracks.

2018 “Belt and Road” Nordic Spring Peace and Culture Festival held on Stockholm Cultural Night

By Xuefei Chen Axelsson

STOCKHOLM, April. 21(Greenpost) – 2018 Belt and Road Nordic Spring Peace and Cultural Festival and Li Li’s Chinese Paintings Exhibition  have been successfully held as a part of Stockholm Cultural Night which was a cooperation with over 100 museums, galleries, opera houses and other cultural locations to open free to the public from 18:00-24:00 on April 21.

The festival was held by China-Europe Cultural Association, Professional Foreign journalist Association or PROFOCA in cooperation with Chinese Teachers Association in Sweden.

Chinese Ambassador to Sweden Gui Congyou spoke highly about the festival.

“The opening of the Stockholm Cultural Night and Belt and Road International Peace and Cultural Festival is of great significance in such a period of time. China and Sweden have enjoyed  very good relations and the bilateral relations are on a new historical starting point with great potential to tap. With Chinese style in  Stockholm Cultural Night, it will make the night even more beautiful and be conducive to Sino-Swedish relations. ” said Ambassador Gui.

“China proposes Belt and Road initiative based on the principle of discussing together, jointly building and sharing the result to improve relations with various countries and  expand cooperation with various countries. People to people relation is one of the five parts of belt and road initiative and cultural exchange is an important way to communicate with each other. ”  he said.

“I understand that tonight there will be a big banquet of culture including instrument performance, dancing and singing, and Chinese woman artist Li Li’s painting and the Chinese film Romance on the Lushan Mountain, I hope you all have a good evening.  ” said Ambassador Gui.

China-Europe Cultural Association is a non-political , non-religious organization consisting 75% of Chinese women in Sweden aiming at enhancing Chinese culture and enrich their life in Sweden and serving as a bridge between China and Sweden.

Ambassador Gui said he also welcomed journalists from PROFOCA and other foreign friends to visit China. Over the past 40 years of reform and opening up, China has experienced great changes. Since the 18th Party’s Congress, China has entered a new era. Now China enjoys stable social and political environment and high quality economic development.  Nearly 1.3 billion people have shrugged off poverty and the rest 50 million will eradicate their poverty situation by 2020. In the International arena, China plays an important role in maintaining world peace, security and stability.  It is a main force for world harmony. I believe the journalists can find some good news from China.

Xuefei Chen Axelsson, President of China-Europe Cultural Association and PROFOCA explained why they held this event.

She said to be part of the Stockholm Cultural Night made her proud to be able to contribute to the cultural life in Stockholm with some Chinese flavour. This is also a sign that Sweden is open and international.

“We hold 2018 Belt and Road Nordic Spring Peace and Culture Festival in order to guard world peace.  Belt and Road Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping is not to impose Chinese influence by purpose, but treat it as a way to promote peace and development. Sweden was the destination of the maritime silk road taking the boat Gothenburg as an example. We like to promote cultural exchanges between China and Sweden and China and Europe. ” said Chen Axelsson.

“The third is to celebrate the exhibition of Beijing women artist Li Li. Although it is a small scale of 30 small pieces of paintings, it is profound and a real action of bilateral cultural exchange. ” she said.

As a journalist herself, Chen Axelsson said while China insists on peace and development, some other parts of the world are not very peaceful. She held that violence and conflict are the biggest enemy of sustainable development. We condemn all kinds of violence.  Violence and conflict are a result of illiteracy. Belt and Road initiative aims to avoid violence and conflict. Through peace and development, people’s living standards can be improved. Without peace, there will be no development. We must value the peaceful environment. We believe that cultural exchange is conducive to understanding between different people and countries, and further avoid conflict and maintain world peace and stability.

Last year, we held the first Nordic Spring International Cultural Festival, we also held other cultural activities such as holding lectures and listening to Chinese actor Pu Chunxin’s presentation held in Chinese Cultural Center . By learning Chinese culture, we feel more peaceful and life is more joyful.  By going to China and reporting the Party Congress, I saw China’s peaceful transition to a new era aiming at wiping out poverty completely and building a modern Chinese society. We shall continue to work hard to serve the members and contribute to Sino-Swedish good relations.

The performances began with Swedish Chinese Children’s choir’s singing.

Dong Jiajun’s Hulusi performance is very beautiful. The music is really very good for ear. Hulusi is an instrument from China’s Yunnan Province, Southwest China.

He Ruiyu sang the song Rolling up the Bamboo Curtain beautifully.

Chinese women choir also sang very well. Some of them are the mothers of the children’s choir .

Natali Dansstudio’s girls brought modern dance.

Tang Shiyu sang a beautiful Chinese song called the size of the heaven.

Li Zhanchun sang Tianbian, Little Populars Tree and I love you China reminding us the beautiful China of the 1980s.

Beijing woman artist Li Li’s paintings stand by the wall around the hall which hosts more than 200 people.

The programs attracts Swedish, Russians, Americans and Chinese.  The Chinese food is also part of Chinese culture.

Finally a film Romance on Lushan Mountain was played to end the cultural night at midnight.

The Stockholm Forum on Gender Equality to be held on April 15

Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms Margot Wallström, Minister for International Development Cooperation and Climate, Ms Isabella Lövin, and Minister for EU Affairs and Trade, Ms Ann Linde, as well as the Director-General of the Swedish Institute, Ms Annika Rembe, will host the forum, which is organised by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Swedish Institute in collaboration with Sida and Folke Bernadotte Academy.

The conference is taking place at a decisive moment. Despite some progress, inequality and discrimination of girls and women remains one of the greatest human rights challenges in our time. The forum mobilises forces to achieve the global goals under Agenda 2030 and will focus on critical issues related to women’s and girls’ rights, representation, and access to resources.

More rights, representation, and resources for women and girls means more peace, security, and prosperity for the world. A feminist foreign policy is the way forward. With this conference, we create a possibility for grassroots and high-level participants from all over the globe to meet, share knowledge, and inspire political leaders, says Margot Wallström, Minister for Foreign Affairs.

When we empower women and girls we empower nations and eradicate poverty. It starts with giving every woman and girl the right over her own body, says Isabella Lövin, Minister for International Development Cooperation and Climate.

Gender equality contributes to growth in all countries, regardless of the level of development. This has to guide all economic policy-making, including trade, says Minister for EU Affairs and Trade, Ms Ann Linde.

We see successes but also movements that seek to limit women’s and girls’ rights and range. That’s why the forum is so important. We need to gather forces, share experiences, and disseminate breakthroughs that make a difference for the individual as well as for society at large, says Annika Rembe, Director-General of the Swedish Institute.

Approximately 500 participants are expected from around the world. During the forum, participants will identify the biggest challenges, as well as possible solutions, for the fight for gender equality today. They will share experiences and good examples as well as build networks. Results as well as new initiatives will be brought into local contexts.

Feature: A Day in Beijing during the NPC Congress and CPPCC Session

By Xuefei Chen Axelsson

On March 13th, I got up early because on March 12 I stayed at home and watched Live TV broadcast to cover the National People’s Congress press conferences.  Due to the jetleg, I have to sleep early every day and get up very early.  This is good for me.

Smog, when will you go away?

In the morning, I looked outside through the window and found the smog was more serious than the previous days. But still, it was better than that of five years ago when I was in Beijing on 2013.

I took the bus No 10 outside the courtyard and it took me 20 minutes to arrive at Guomao.  After I got off the bus, I have to walk another 100 meters and then went into the subway.  Still I love it because it saved me a lot more walking.

I took the line one of the Subway to Tiananmen West. I was worried because on Sunday when I took the bus No. 1, it didn’t stop on Tiananmen West. But thanks to CPC, the subway stopped at Tiananmen West.

When I came out of the subway, I saw the trees along the Chang’An Avenue  very beautiful. It looked like an ink painting.  It was foggy and smoggy.

I hurried to the Great Hall of the People. The guards were strict but nice.  Quickly I arrived in the Hall and went through the security. The logistics were good. They provided a safety box and a key so that people could put their extra mobile phone in the box and locked it.

In the morning, it was Li Jianguo from NPC committee who presented explaination on China’s Supervision Law. This law shows the determination of the Communist Party of China to prevent corruption according to law.

Many Chinese delegations have visited Sweden and got to know how Sweden prevents corruption.

Emphasis was also given to supervision and both a Supervision Law and a Supervision department has been established. These are also the spotlights during this congress. It showed that Xi Jinping is determined to  prevent corruption according to law.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang attended the conference.  Li Jianguo presented a report on details of the Supervision law to illustrate why China forms supervision law and how it works to prevent  corruption.

After this report, Wang Yong delivered a report on State Council’s institutional reform.

For years, people feel it is difficult to get rid of the family planning committee. But now it is gone.  In stead, with the call from the soldiers, a new department on retired soldiers has been established to take care of their pension.

National Land Resources Ministry has been changed to Natural Resources Ministry. State Forestry Ministry has been taken away. More emphasis has been put on the rural areas development and environment protection.

Overall,  the State Council has cutt off 8 ministries, but also promoted some other ministries.  Foreign Affairs Ministry remains at the same level.

Tourism and Cultural Ministry merged into one and it was welcomed.

Delegates think the reform of the institutions  is quite reasonable.

After that, I went to Fulihua  at Nan Lishilu area. I used to work in those area and I miss it very much.

So I went to the Molly shop where I used to buy clothes.  I bought four clothes.  I took a bowl of noodles for lunch.

And then I hurried to Great Hall of the People.  The reason for it is that there is an open press conference in the Xinjiang Ugyor Autonomous Region delegation.  Kurban,  a Ugyor who used to ride a donkey to come to Beijing to see  late Chairman Mao. Now his great grand daughter becomes the delegate representing the hometown people.

She said she worked in the Liaoning Submarine before she became the delegate.  With her family’s experience,  she saw the great changes in their life for better  in Xinjiang.

She said in particular, President Xi Jinping put up forward a policy that the Chinese cadres should help the Ugyor families to form a partnership.  This way leads to the Ugyor family to eradicate poverty quickly.  The Ugyors feel honored to have a Han cadre to be their contact.

She said she would follow her great grand father’s step and continue to work hard to improve the local people’s living standards.

Unity among different ethnic groups in Xinjiang is an important task to keep the region safe, stable and prosperous.

Tourism is an important industry in the region and also key for poverty eradication.

Xinjiang is a beautiful place.  It also receives support from Zhejiang Province as another kind of partnership.  That means the Chinese government asks the eastern provinces to help western provinces and regions.  This is also a good way to narrow down the gap between eastern and western regions.

After this press conference, I went back to the shop to fetch my clothes because I couldn’t take a lot of things to the Great Hall of the People.

In the evening, I met my former colleagues.  She said I can take bus No. 1 to Ritanlu from Nanlishilu.  I remember there were bus 52, 57 and 1. But now neither 52 nor 57  travel so long. Only bus No. 1 kept its pride to drive on the Chang’s Avenue, the No. 1 road in Beijing.

It is true that it goes quickly and I can get off directly in front of Beijing Radio.  Then we went to a Yunnan style restaurant to eat a hotpot sour fish, but not as sour as herring in Sweden.

One can put noddles into the pot and with some vegetables, it became a good meal.  We talked a lot about why I left Beijing for Sweden and what I did over the years.

They said your zigzagging life sounds very interesting and you should write a book about it.  I said I have written a big part of it but I never know how to end it. So it is going on but no end.

Then they drove me home which sits outside the third ringroad.  I was moved by their hospitality and felt very glad that almost every family nowadays has one or two cars in Beijing.

Beijing was shrounded with smog and the trees look like an ink painting.

When I came in to the apartment, I felt I was so excited that I couldn’t sleep.  I watched wechat news and then tried to sleep again. But it was one thirty already.

Ingmar Bergman’s 100th anniversary celebrated all over the world

By Xuefei Chen Axelsson

“Bergmania” is sweeping the world in celebration of what would have been the legendary director’s 100th birthday. New digitisations of his films by the Swedish Film Institute have enabled the entire world to participate in the celebration, according to a press release from the Bergman Foundation.

– The huge interest in celebrating Bergman 100 exceeds our highest expectations! Though great art is indeed timeless, it still needs the support from public and private institutions to remain available. Most importantly, though, it needs the support of the audience. The art of Bergman, luckily, enjoys all of these, says Jan Holmberg, CEO at the Ingmar Bergman Foundation.

In the beginning of February the Ingmar Bergman-fever reached New York as Film Forum opened its centennial celebration of the Swedish director, with a five week retrospective, screening 47 of his feature films. The program has been praised as “the repertory of the year” and has drawn great accolades from fans and critics with reviews in high profile New York-based magazines such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and The New Yorker wrote “The world of Ingmar Bergman is hereby declared open. It contains multitudes. Everyone is welcome.”

BFI programmer Geoff Andrew crowned Bergman as “the ultimate auteur” in his introductory speech for BFI’s Ingmar Bergman: A Definitive Film Season, a three month celebration that marks the centenary of the film-makers birth. As part of BFI celebrations of the centenary of Ingmar Bergman, many of his films will be returning to cinemas across the UK. From February 21 through April 14, London’s Old Vic presents Fanny & Alexander, an adaptation for the stage of Bergman’s 1982 semi-autobiographical work.

Back in continental Europe, the Centro sperimentale di cinematografia in Rome generated long lines circling around the theatre as they screened the Bergman retrospective. In Vienna, the Austrian Film Museum is staging a complete retrospective of Bergman’s filmography. In the Austrian newspaper Die Presse, hailed Bergmans films as “keeping us looking fearlessly into the mirror, their reflections are acid baths for the soul”.

Film retrospectives and screenings will continue all over the world, among them Tel Aviv, Singapore, Detroit, Beijing, Montreal, Madrid, Moscow, Prague, Berlin, Washington DC, Hong Kong, Bogota, Taipei, Chicago, Paris, Toronto, Ljublijana, Geneva and Mexico City.

– The fact that Ingmar Bergman’s films can be shown in this way worldwide is thanks to the Swedish Film Institute’s digitisation project. Three years ago, we decided that all of Bergman’s films would be digitised and translated into English by 2018, says Mathias Roensgren, Director of Film Heritage at the Swedish Film Institute.

In Scandinavia, among almost countless Bergman-related events, the cinematheques in Stockholm, Helsinki and Oslo started their all year long retrospectives. The Museum Hallwyl in Stockholm is showcasing a selection of women’s costumes featured in Bergman’s films. This year will also witness an extensive Bergman-related book release (more than 40 titles); including the Swedish publishing house Nordstedts releasing six volumes of mostly previously unpublished material written by the director.

The Oscars-weekend is fast approaching and nominated for Best Foreign Language Film is Ruben Östlund’s The Square. This could make it the first Swedish film to win the award since Fanny & Alexander at the 1984 ceremony. Bergman received three Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film during his career including The Virgin Spring(1960) and Through a Glass Darkly (1961), placing him second only to Federico Fellini, and received nine other Academy Award-nominations for his films. Watch actress Harriet Anderson accepting the award on Bergman’s behalf at the 1962 ceremony.

Lost Swedish silent film rediscovered in France

Judaspengar/The Price of Betrayal (images from the Swedish Film Institute’s Film Archive)

The Film Heritage Direction of the CNC in Bois d’Arcy has rediscovered a print of the long lost Judaspengar/The Price of Betrayal, directed by Victor Sjöström in 1915.

The sensational find was announced in October last year, and the element which was identified is a nitrate Swiss distribution print from the film's release, with French and German intertitles. The unearthed print is almost complete and is 755 meters, compared to the film's original length of 799 meters.

The film was produced by AB Svenska Biografteatern and was shot in the summer of 1915, and premiered in November the same year at Paladsteatret in Copenhagen. Egil Eide and John Ekman play the main characters in this drama where poverty and hardship leads an unemployed man to give up his friend, wrongly accused of murder.

The director, Victor Sjöström is together with Mauritz Stiller the big name within Swedish silent film era. Sjöström was active in the theater as director and actor when he was brought into the film industry in 1912 by Charles Magnusson, director of the studio Svenska Biografteatern. During his first five years, Sjöström directed no less than 30 films, of which the most famous is the masterpiece Ingeborg Holm (1913.

About Judaspengar, the daily paper Svenska Dagbladet wrote in their review "Standing on the top of what film drama can offer, and with Victor Sjöström's artistic directing, this masterpiece comes very close."

— This is a fantastic discovery. With this film we get yet another important piece of the puzzle in Sjöström’s career that helps to understand the development of the silent film in Sweden. Judaspengar / The Price of Betrayal is not only an extremely powerful drama about poverty and betrayal, but also show Sjöström’s outstanding qualities as director in terms of image compositions and character direction. We are very pleased to be able to collaborate with the archive in Bois d’Arcy, says Jon Wengström, Curator of the Archival film Collections of the Swedish Film Institute.
